  • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the Sarah Elizabeth Israel Davis, of 1 Edgewood Ext., Asheville, died Friday in a local nursing home. A native of Buncombe County, she was employed by the U.S. Naval Department in the Pentagon during World War II. She worked with the U.S. Forestry Services in Ahseville. A daughter of the late Sanky Wells and Lucille Keith Israel, she was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Surviving are her husband, Oliver F. Davis; a son, William D. Davis of the home; four daughters, Cindy Ward of Asheville, Bonnie Norman of Houston, Texas, Lora Kay Andrade of Haywood, Calif., and Carol Lytle of Orlando, Fla; a brother John Israel of Asheville; and a sister, Gail Blankenship of Cincinnati, Ohio. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Williams Funeral Service. Elder Jim Cooper will officiate. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Jill Banyai, 108 Stonecrest Drive.     Asheville-Geraldine "Gerry" Franklin Israel, 78, of Wamboldt Avenue, Asheville, died peacefully after an extended illness on Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center. Gerry was the daughter of the late Lewis E. and Mana H. Franklin. Gerry was a lifelong resident of Asheville, a member of West Asheville Baptist Church, and worked for many years for the Western Carolina Livestock Yard. She is survived by her husband, John W. Israel; daughters, Susan Israel, and Janice Brown and son-in-law, David; grand-daughters, Kristine and Jessica Brown; and brother, Ed Franklin. The graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Pisgah View Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue. John was born June 28, 1943, in St. Joseph to John Paul and Reta Juanita (Morgan) Wildberger. John was born and raised in St. Joseph. He graduated from Central High School in 1961 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps. In 1977 John went to work at Johnson Controls, retiring in 2009 after 32 years. John was a member of IBEW 116, American Legion Post #359, Fraternal Order of Eagles, U.S. Ultra-Light Association, and had attended Calvary Baptist Church. He married Dorothy L. "Dottie" Gage on November 23, 1962 and she survives. Also mourning his passing are, Paul L. Wildberger and wife Joan of Dallas, TX, Lori L. Adams and husband David of Denver, CO, honorary son Randy Glidewell and wife Catherine of Lawrence, KS; two grandchildren Ali Fisher and Jake Fisher; brother-in-law, Dennis Gage; other relatives and friends.

    Preceding John in death were his parents, a brother Charles WIldberger, and a sister Esther Steele. John was a country and western lead guitar player, an ultra-light pilot, and enjoyed riding his Harley. He could fix anything and was a universal handy man. He was respected for his work ethic, and was our hero and our rock. His quiet strength was comforting in all situations. Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 23, 2019, after 12:00 noon where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Services will be Thursday, January 24, 2019, 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
