Sammy Hannah

M, b. 7 August 1958, d. 1 November 2020
  • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the Sammy Hannah passed away unexpectedly, November 1st, 2020, leaving friends and family shocked & saddened. Born August 7, 1958 in Fort Collins, CO to Charles (Chuck) Hannah, and Doris (Delehoy). Sammy grew up in La Porte & Fort Collins, learned to hunt & fish from his father. He played little league baseball, and football and earned the nickname 'crazy legs' for his agility & speed. Sammy attended Poudre High School. In 1976 he enlisted in the USMC. Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, CA. He drove an AAV and spent a year in Okinawa. After the Marines, Sammy worked for several years as an apprentice electrician for Darwin Roe. Then he went to work for Northern Colorado Plastering, where he became a journeyman Plasterer. He's worked on prestigious jobs such as the AZ Space Biosphere,in 1987, the Honolulu International Airport in 1988, and the Broadmoor Hotel in 1994. Sammy married Kelly (Sweeney) on May 25th, 1991 in Fort Collins. In 1993 they moved to Stratmore Valley, in Colorado Springs. He opened Hannah Exteriors, a synthetic Plaster & Stucco Business & hired several neighborhood teens. He became a mentor, teaching the value of hard work, sharing his love of fishing, hunting & camping in the Rocky Mountains. In 2008, they moved to Pueblo West, where he & Kelly built their own straw bale house with Kelly's mother. From 2008-2016 Sammy worked on Fort Carson for Balfour Beatty. Sam volunteered annually for the Fort Carson Kids Fishing Day. He loved teaching kids to fish & sharing his love of the great outdoors. In 2018 Sammy founded High Desert Plastering, in Pueblo West, Colorado. He was a favorite to his builders & contractors for his meticulous work, quick wit, kindness and generosity. Sammy was an animal lover. A loyal friend. He was someone you could count on to liven up the most depressing of days. As Uncle Sam, he adored his many nieces and nephews, both honorary and blood relations. His absence from our lives leaves a hole that can't be filled. But our Sammy would hate to be the cause of sorrow. He was preceded in death by his father Charles Dale Hannah, and his Mother, Doris Lucille (Delehoy) Hannah, he is survived by his wife, Kelly (Sweeney) Hannah, of Pueblo West, sister Deborah (Hannah) Allison and Brian Allison, of Loveland, and brother Billy Hannah of Fort Collins, Aunt Joann ( Delehoy) Tamlin and Jack Tamlin, of Fort Collins, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service for Sammy is being planned for Saturday, May 22nd, 2021 at his home in Pueblo West. We hope you'll join us to hug and laugh and cry and celebrate Sammy's beautiful life. We are going to send Sammy out with a 'bang'- like he asked us to. Will post time and details as the date draws closer. after 1 November 2020.
