M, b. 21 January 1922, d. 2 September 2000
  • Census*: He appeared on the census of 1950 at Washington City, District of Columbia, District of Columbia.
  • Note*: He Larry was born January 21, 1922 & was the youngest in the class of 1939. His family moved here from North Dakota about the time he entered seventh grade. They lived back a long lane off Westboro Road, almost across Hammers'. He tells stories about hoe poor they were--stories to which many people who lived in the Thirties can relate. Larry was well liked, always did good in school & was often encouraged by other students to introduce a new subject in class if they were not especially prepared for that day's recitation. Larry was working as a civilian at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. He was there early in the morning to meet his brother, Brand, for breakfast & was standing next to the USS Pennsylvania when the Japanese attack began. He saw the whole thing, including the USS Arizona actually rise up out of the water before it sank. After working the at the shipyard through the Battle of Midway, Larry joined the US Army's 25th Division, & saw action on Guadalcanal. Later he was recruited into OSS, drove the Burma Road & lead Chinese troops into action against the Japanese near Jun Ming, China. After the war Larry worked in the CIA, & then as Public Works manager at the Long Beach Shipyard, until he retired. Some place, somehow, he got a degree in economics. He became a general contractor in California, Colorado, South Dakota & Washington State. His wife, Margaret Miles, whom he married in 1946, was a teacher. Margaret was from California. They have three children: Rob, Rich, Mary, & eight grandchildren. Larry is very proud of his children. He learned to fly in 1977 & now lives on a farm in the southwest corner of South Dakota near Custer. Larry wrote a book in 1999 & it is now being edited prior to printing while two other books are in the writing & planning stages. He has warm memories of his friends at Jefferson. It was a good time in his life. In a letter from his son, Rob, we learn that Larry passed on September 2, 2000, In Garden Grove, California. He is buried in the Black Hills National Cemetery in South Dakota.
