  • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the Glenn Leonard Ihrke, 85, passed away peacefully Friday, March 13, 2015, at his home in Scottsdale, Ariz., surrounded by his family. Glenn was born in Eyota on April 4, 1929, to Edwin and Mabel (Salter) Ihrke. He was raised on several farms in the Eyota area where he grew to love farm life. He graduated from Eyota High School in 1947. In 1950, Glenn joined the United States Air Force as a jet fighter mechanic, and was stationed at Luke AFB in Glendale, Ariz. Glenn married Alberta Lee Rowlands in 1953 and had four children. After Alberta's passing in 1958, Glenn married Leora E. Cohenour and together they raised a family of six kids in Scottsdale. Glenn worked as a contractor for 40 years in the Scottsdale area, specializing in home remodeling. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served for many years as bishop over his local congregation, ministering to their needs. Glenn cherished the wonderful friends he made over his life and career. He was a hard-working, kind, and loving man, always upbeat and cheerful, even during hard times. Glenn loved fishing, hunting and camping, but his greatest joy was his family. Glenn is survived by his wife of 55 years Leora E. Ihrke; and five children, Jay, Jayne, Glenna, Dale and Alan; his sons-in-law, Dean Petty (Glenna), Norm VanderWall (Jayne) and daughter-in-law, Riea (Dale); nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Glenn is also survived by seven brothers and sisters, Marlow Ihrke of Eyota, Marian Bicknese of Eyota, David Ihrke of Rochester, Janice Moehnke of Owatonna, LuAn Daniels of Eyota, Jim Ihrke of Pine Island and Carol Johnson of Minneapolis. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Mabel Ihrke, brother, Dean Ihrke, wife, Alberta Rowlands, daughters, Carolyn and Nancy Ihrke, son, Timothy Ihrke and grandson, Timothy Robardey. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 19, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint, 2202 N 74th Street, Scottsdale, Ariz.
