She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years John "Jack" Plankers of El Sobrante. She is survived by her close and supportive siblings: Anna Gillmor and Edward Murphy, Jr., and sister-in-law Carol Murphy. She is the beloved mother of Robert Narron, Richard Narron, Laura Zhang, Jacqueline Medernach and Tammara Plankers. Loving stepmother to Judith Jackson and Lauren Rhodes. Adored grandmother to Karmen, Kenneth, Eric, Cordell, Rondre, David Seamus, Jason, Amethyst, Jasmine, Milaina, Nicole Adeline, Selena and MaryAlice. Cherished great-grandmother of nine. Mary was born in the Presidio in San Francisco, to Kathryn and Edward Murphy, and raised in Berkeley, Hayward, Walnut Creek, and Arcata, where she often worked in her parents' stores. She had a generous, fun-loving personality that touched everyone she met. She delighted in hosting dinners and parties, and had a passion for music, movies, and the theater. She volunteered at the schools her children attended, as well as for charitable organizations and local soup kitchens. She relaxed with gardening when she found the time. After her retirement from the Social Security Administration in 1993, she enjoyed many trips to Reno with her late husband Jack where she excelled at blackjack and craps. She also enjoyed traveling and cruising to Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico and the Caribbean. Above all Mary loved to spend time with her family and her many treasured friends. Her family is especially grateful to the staff and residents of Pinole Senior Village. A memorial to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday March 19, 2011 at 12:00 noon at First United Methodist Church, 201 Martina St., Point Richmond, CA.
