Harold Elvin "Elvin" Gilliam

  • Obituary: An obituary appeared in the Harold Elvin Gilliam arrived at his Heavenly Home on August 28, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer.
    Elvin was born on August 16, 1940 in Electric City, WA. He is survived by one brother; Larry, and four sisters; Gene, Leah, Kay and Vicki. Elvin is survived by his wife, Sandra, 49 years. They were married in Kellogg, Idaho on August 22, 1959. His children include: a daughter, Robin Michelle of Pasco, Sons; Captain Chaplain Rodney Gilliam of North Carolina and Russell Gilliam of Pasco. He is also survived by two daughter-in-laws; Angela Gilliam and Jennifer Gilliam, 8 grandsons: Corporal Nicolas Rowe, Airman Michael Rowe, Ryan Rowe, Brandon Rowe, Kevin Gilliam, Aaron Gilliam, Shane Gilliam, Logan Gilliam and one granddaughter; Tiffany Rowe.
    Elvin graduated from high school at Missoula, MT, attended the University of Idaho, and Northwest Nazarene College. He was ordained with the Church of the Nazarene in 1971. Elvin has served as pastor of churches in Idaho, Washington, California and Oklahoma. He served as a hospital Chaplain in Longview, Washington. In 1980, he worked as Chaplain for the City of Fairfield, WA, and a Hospice Chaplain in Vallejo, CA. As a hobby, Elvin loved driving big rigs and following retirement from the city of Fairfield, he drove trucks for Hyster, Caterpillar and Home Depot.
    In 2000, Elvin returned to the pastorate at Prosser Church of the Nazarene, where he grew the membership from 18 to a full sanctuary of people on Sunday mornings! Elvin will be missed by his congregation and baptized 5 people the last Sunday he ministered. Elvin will also be missed by his congregation, family, and a host of friends who enjoyed his quick wit and sense of humor.
    Elvin cherished his family with much love and support. His wife, children and grandchildren were the light of his life. He will be deeply missed.
    Elvin is preceded in death by his parents: Rev. Harold and Elda Gilliam and one grandson; Christopher Rowe.
