DUARTE, Winifred R. - Age 87, of Sutherlin, Oregon, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2006, at a Roseburg hospital. Charlene was born in Hasty, Arkansas, to Alvin and Martha (Agee) Reynolds on July 25, 1918. She married her Joseph Victor Duarte in 1948. Charlene was a riveter supervisor for McDonald Douglas. After moving to Laguna Beach, California, Charlene worked as a grocery store checker, where she had the opportunity to shop for actress Bette Davis. In April of 1956, they lovingly adopted their son, David. Approaching retirement, they decided to open a mold making business for numerous porcelain doll makers and usually received the finished product from each doll mold casted. They even made the molds and ceramic pieces for Lawrence Welk (Bubbles with a Champagne Glass). After retirement, they decided to move to Roseburg, Oregon, continuing their well-known mold making business. After several years, they moved the business to Salem, Oregon. Charlene kept the business after Joe passed away. She really enjoyed making and painting several different figurines. She always showed visitors the endless array of dolls, and usually let them pick from figurines she had previously constructed. Charlene sent her guests away with a sugar lump doll or two, joyfully telling them to come back anytime. When her health became an issue, she moved to Sutherlin and retired. She will be missed by her many friends and her son, David and his wife, Kathy. She has been laid to rest with her husband, Joe at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
