  • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the Frances A Halpane was born Oct. 7, 1837, in Blunt County, Tennessee, and was the daughter of Samuel and Polly Halpane, two of Oregon's early pioneers. When quite young they moved to Northwestern Missouri, and there she grew to womanhood. In the year 1853 she was united in marriage to James Bunten, who died in 1854. To this union was born one daughter. In April, 1854, she, with her parents and little daughter, started across the plains to Oregon, arriving in the Willamette valley in September of the same year. In 1855 she was again married, her husband being Wm. M. Brisbin, a pioneer of '49. He died at Olalla, Oregon, in April, 1881. To this union was born one son and five daughters. Mrs. Brisbin moved to Douglas county in 1857, where she made her home until her death. She always enjoyed very good health until January last, when she was attacked with lagrippe, which, thought not of a serious nature at the time, left her in declining health which medical treatment failed to allay. Several weeks ago she was moved from her home at Olalla to Roseburg with hope of the change being of some benefit. But, alas, the hand of Death is strong, and she breathed her last at 8 o'clock p.m., Tuesday, July 25, 1905 and was laid to rest July 27, 1905, at Ten Mile, Oregon. One by one the noble pioneers of Oregon are passing away, and the day will soon be at hand when none will be left to tell the tale of the hardships and fears undergone while hewing a way for the native sons and daughters. Although this dear mother was surrounded by every comfort, her entire family of children, the love and assistance of a host of friends, and in the skill of Douglas county's most eminent physicians, yet death could not be stayed. She is survived by her son and six daughters, all residents of this county, 37 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Her children are as follows: Mrs. E. Brady, Brockway; Mr. W.L. Roberts, Ten Mile; Mrs. B.B. Roberts, Roseburg; S.R. Brisbin, Olalla; Mrs. (H?). W. Lawson, Ten Mile; Mrs. B.F. Sheilds, Winston, and Mrs. W.G. Friend, Olalla.
