In his early years he farmed and later worked at Western Auto and Hill College, retiring after many years of service. He was a member of Line Street United Methodist Church of Hillsboro.
    He married Clara Jennings on Aug. 21, 1924; she preceded him in death on Nov. 8, 1991. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Marie Evans, in 1994; by three grandchildren, Allen Eugene Evans, Carole Ann Evans and James William Brown; and a brother, Leo Allen, in 1957.
    Survivors: Son, J.C. Allen and his wife, Peggy, of Irving; daughter, Joan Brown and her husband, Charlie, of Hillsboro; sister, Martha Beal of Bedford; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
