    Joe D. Ingram, Jr.
    A memorial service will be held Aug. 16 for Joe David Ingram, Jr., who died Aug. 3, 2004, in Medford Oregon from complications, related to diabetes. He was 81. Ingram was born Dec. 26, 1922, in Seattle, Wash., to Joe D. Ingram, Sr. and Pauline Elizabeth Coad. He married Mary L. Elbert on Jan.21, 1974, in Reno, Nev.
    He graduated from Grant High School in Portland Oregon and joined the U. S. Navel Reserve in 1940. He served during World War 11 as Signalman First class, aboard the U.S.S. Kershaw, and was stationed in Kodiak, Alaska, and in the South Pacific. In 1970, Ingram pursued his true passion as a jazz musician, playing trumpet and vibes. He moved to Monterey, Calif., where he spent close to 30 years playing professional jazz. He founded the Monterey Hot Jazz Society and later the Monterey Dixieland Jazz Festival, both still active today. Survivors include his wife Mary; two sons, Joe D. Ingram, III of Eugene, Ore., and Fred C. Ingram of Portland Ore; two daughters, Reba J. Francis of Coos Bay, Ore., and Molly Trudeau of Eugene, Ore; two stepdaughters, Sheree Garcia of Pacific Grove; and Andrea Morrison of Viroqua, Wis; and stepsons, Alan Elbert of Cashton, Wis., and Timothy Elbert of Viroqua, Wis; 15 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
    An inurnment memorial service will be held at Eagle Point National Cemetery in Eagle Point, Ore., Aug. 16 at 11 a.m.

    Mrs. Winters was born May 25, 1927, in Portland. Her maiden name was Ingram. She graduated from Tillamook High School. She was a homemaker, as well as a member, deacon and Stephen minister of the church. She did volunteer work for United Good Neighbors for 15 years. She married John Winters in 1947; he died in 1990.
    Survivors include her sons, Thomas J. of Canyon City, Michael J. of Portland and John D. of La Grande; brother, Joe D. Ingram of Monterey, Calif; and three grandchildren.
    Private interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Park. The family suggests remembrances to the Westminster Summer Music Camp in care of the church. Arrangements are by Ross Hollywood Chapel.

    Mrs. Berdie A. Canter, 83, granddaughter of a wagon-train pioneer, died Wednesday in a Portland rest home after a long illness. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Little Chapel of the Chimes, with Rev. J.A. Stevenson of Vernon Presbyterian church in charge.
    Mrs. Canter was born Jun 28, 1870, in the Waldo hills near Salem. Her father was the late Dr. Robert F. Ashby, Portland physician, and her grandfather was George W. Hunt, who crossed the plains and settled in Sublimity in 1849. He was postmaster there for many years. He also taught in the first school in Sublimity.
    Mrs. Canter was a long-time member of the First Christian church and Rebekah lodge of Dallas and was a charter member of the Degree of Honor lodge of Dallas. She had lived in Portland 33 years, making her home at 4903 N.E. 28th avenue.
    Her husband, Charles C. Canter, died some time ago.
