  • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the Alfred John Kanne quietly left this life the morning of May 1, 1952 at the hospital in Madison. At the age of 48 years, 3 months and 9 days, he entered into an eternal rest and peace such as this world could not give him. Death brought release from months of severe suffering which came with sickness that had progressively taken possession of him over a period of years. Zion Evangelical United Brethren church in Bellingham where he was active to the time of his death. He is survived by his wife, Helen, by his parents; by three brothers, Lawrence of Ortonville; Arthur of Ashley, Minn; and Marvin of Centerville, Iowa; by six sisters, Alice (Mrs. Leo Chamberlain) of Elgin, Ill; Esther (Mrs. Owen McConiel) of Larhwood, Iowa; Margaret (Mrs. Arthur Bauenhart); Marian Kanne; Adeline (Mrs. Robert North), all of St. Louis, MO; and Gladys (Mrs. Frank Wilson of Muscatine, Iowa; and by children Darlene (Mrs. Erhart Rohrbach), Ruby, Donald and Eugene. Many other relatives, friends and neighbors mourn his passing from this life and will miss his kindly, cheerful and helpful spirit. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, May 5th, at the Bellingham Evangelical United Brethren Church, Rev. Wesley G Miller officiated assisted by Rev. WW Zahl. Music was sung by a male quartet with Miss Myrtle Witte as pianist. Pallbearers were Wayne, Orville, Elmond, and Irvin Kanne; John and Harold Gollnick. Interment was made in the Bellingham cemetery.

  • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the Memorial services for Lawrence W Kanne, 92, of Ortonville were held Monday, July 28, 1997 in the United Methodist church at Ortonville. Pastor Larry Kasten officiated with Janet Hipple, organist and Bev Prior, soloist. Interment was in Mound Cemetery, Ortonville. Lawrence Walter Kanne was born April 25, 1905 in Lac qui Parle Co., to parents Herman and Adeleena Kanne. He attended country school in Lac qui Parle Co, thru eighth grade. He was united in marriage to Minnie Mielitz on Aug. 28, 1930 at the Evangelical United Brethren Church of Big Stone City, by pastor Bergland. Lawrence began farming in rural Odessa after which he moved to Alban Township Grant Co, SD for nine years and then in the early 1940’s began farming in rural Ortonville, where he lived until 1995. From there he moved to the Northridge Residence in Ortonville. Lawrence passed away Sunday, July 20, 1997 at the Northridge Residence reaching the age of 92 years, two months and 25 days. His hobbies included reading, gardening and flowers. Survivors include one daughter, Caryl (Harold) Foy of Cape Coral, FL; three sons, Lyle (Rose) and Garnet of Ortonville and Arlin (Sheila) of Blueridge, VA; two granddaughters, Karol Saboe of Salt Lake City, UT and Terri Thomson of Hoffman; one great granddaughter, Katherine Ellen Thomson of Hoffman; four sisters, Gladys Wilson, Margaret Bumgarth, Marion Wilbank and Adelaine Morth all of St. Louis, MO; many nieces and nephews. Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife Minnie; one daughter, Eileen; one granddaughter; two sisters, Alice and Ester; three brothers, Marvin, Arthur and Alfred.

The family moved to a farm in Birch Cooley Township, rural Franklin in 1972. He attended Detroit Lakes Technical School and finished a course in small engine repair. He owned and operated a small engine shop on a farm following his retirement from farming. Throughout his life, he participated in church activities. He taught Sunday School, worked with Youth for Christ, the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship and various evangelical activities. He recently was a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Franklin.

  • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the Elmond Kanne, 83, of Luverne died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004 at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born Apr. 10, 1921 in rural Odessa, to Edward and Helena Wendland Kanne. Elmond married Blanche Seffen on Apr. 9, 1950, in Ortonville. After their marriage the couple farmed near the Odessa and Kensington areas. They moved to Brewster in Sept. of 1997. In July of 2004, they moved to Luverne. He enjoyed farming, reading the Bible and helping people spiritually. Elmond was a “Jack of all trades”, he loved carpenter and mechanic work. Elmond is survived by his wife, Blanche, Luverne; daughter and son in law, Charlene and Richard Froderman, Adrian; son and daughter in law, Haroldene “Rusty” and Lynn Kanne, Elk Point, SD; four grandchildren, Chad Froderman, Rebecca (Jay) Lee, Debbie (Troy) Kobes and Ryan Froderman, all of Sioux Falls, SD; great granddaughter, Brittany Kobes; brother Erwin (Irene) Kanne, Castle Rock, CO; a sister, Elva Lundgren, Castle Rock,CO; and nieces and nephews. He farmed with his dad on the family farm in rural Hawick until his parents retired and moved to Paynesville and his brother Al was discharged from military service. He and Al then farmed the family farm for 37 years. On October 30, 1948, Vernon and Lila Wegner of Lake Henry were united in marriage in Paynesville. His health began to fail in 1984. They then retired and moved to Paynesville. He enjoyed farming, working the soil and raising cattle. Vernon was a member of the Grove Evangelical Church where he was baptized and confirmed, and where he graduated from catechism. He has been a member of the Grace United Methodist Church since the merger of the churches. His survivors include his wife, Lila; one brother Ellsworth (Al) and wife, Irene, Paynesville; one brother in law, Merton Wegner and wife Geraldine, Paynesville; and nieces and nephews.-Paynesville Press-13 Oct 1992 on Tuesday, 13 October 1992.

    Ellsworth (Al) W Hein, 86, of Paynesville died on Thursday, Jan. 11 at the Koronis Manor in Paynesville. Private services will be held at a later date. Al was born on May 21, 1921, on the Hein family farm in Roseville Township to Reuben and Emma Kanne Hein. He graduated from Paynesville High School in 1938 and served six years in the US Coast Guard during WWII. Al married Irene Schleper on Nov. 25, 1948, in Paynesville. He operated the family dairy farm with his brother Vernon for 37 years. After retiring, Al did lawn care and snow removal with his son John until the fall of 2006. Al enjoyed farming, auctions, deer hunting, and ice fishing. His pride and joy were his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Al is survived by his wife Irene of Paynesville, daughter Suzanne (James) Brick of Lake Henry; son John of Paynesville; a daughter in law; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a sister in law.     High School in 1937 and went on to attend college at Bradley University. Gordon also proudly served in
    the U.S. Army during World War II. On November 26, 1944, Gordon was united in marriage to
    Avanelle Gregoire. The marriage was blessed with two sons, Larry and Greg. Gordon worked as a
    watchmaker and jeweler and was employed at Stadheim Jewelers in Albert Lea, Minnesota. When he
    wasn’t working, Gordon was a lifetime learner and achieved many technical certifications. He was
    forever tinkering, recycling, and innovating. He loved the outdoors and could often be found gardening,
    canoeing, camping and taking photos. Gordon is survived by his wife Avanelle of Hudson, WI; sons,
    Larry Kanne of Woodland Park, CO and Greg (Samantha) Kanne of Hudson, WI; grandchildren, Ryan
    (Paula) Kanne of St. Paul, MN, Nicole Kanne of Woodbury, MN, and Ashley Mess of Bemidji, MN;
    step-grandchildren, Lora and Jason Felix of Hudson, WI; and great-granddaughters, Alyssa and Katie
    Mess of Bemidji, MN. The family requests memorials be directed to your local community education
    programs. There will be no formal service, and private burial will be held. after 24 November 2012.

Lois Charlotte Evangeline Kanne

  • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the Little Lois Kanne, five year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Kanne, 613 Twelfth Street passed away at her home, Wednesday morning following a week’s illness with intestinal flu. She was much improved Sunday and Monday, but peritonitis developed, causing her death. Lois was a very cheerful child and very bright and her death has come at this holiday season as a great shock to the family and their many friends. Short funeral services will be held at the home Friday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock and at 2 o’clock at the ME Church with Dr. TW Stout officiating. HN McKee, funeral director, is in charge. The family has the sincere sympathy of the community.
