  • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the PETERS, Albert Fredrick "Pete" (Age 87)
Pete passed away peacefully in his home in Spokane after a long battle with kidney failure. Pete was born and raised in Fresno, CA. He joined the Navy in 1943 serving on the USS Wasp (CV-18). While stationed in Oregon he met his wife Cathleen Sanderson and they spent their courtship "cutting-a-rug". They married November 24, 1945, in Washington State. Upon leaving the Navy he and his wife made their home in Marcola, Oregon where Pete worked for an uncle managing a service station. Pete had a big, generous, family oriented heart. He was willing to be there in any way he could. In 1949 family called him to Pray, Montana to help run a Dude Ranch, Chico Hot Springs. There he was a hunting and fishing guide, all around handy man, bartender, and manager of various business needs. In 1956 he and his family moved to Butte, Montana where he started a successful tire business. "Pete's OK Tire," where he also sold Scorpion snowmobiles and Harley-Davidson motorcycles. In addition to his ongoing hobbies of hunting and fishing, he earned his Amateur Radio (Ham Radio) license, call sign W70W, in the late 70s. During this time family called for help again bringing him to Livingston, MT. Here he lent a hand in ranching. He retired from ranching and moved to Spokane in the early 2000s committing most of his time to ham radio and fifth-wheeling with his wife and friends. Pete was a kind and generous person wiht a great sense of humor, and basked in the company of his family and "Ham" buddies. Everyone who met Pete quickly grew to love him. He is survived by his wife, Cathleen; daughters Sharon (Ken) Johnson of Livingston, MT and Vicki (Jack) Zimmerman-Bornstein of Spokane, WA. He has five grandchildren: Craig (Robin), Josh and Rylan Johnson, Nolan (Lara) Zimmerman, and Talia (Aaron) Munn, and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Georgia Rosco of Chowchilla, CA and several cousins. A Memorial Service will be held at Spokane Cremation & Funeral Service, Saturday, December 3 at 1:00 pm. The family would like to thank Dr. Obermille, Danette White, and everyone else at DSI for their love and kindness, as well as Hospice of Spokane for their gentle guidance and comfort. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to Hospice of Spokane or any Veteran's support group.
