    July 10, 1909 - January 24, 2006
SALEM - Lionel F. Jones was born July 10, 1909 in Sheridan, Ore. and grew up in that area. It was at a dance there that he met the love of his life, Lucia Duvall. She was the girl with the cowboy hat and a cute smile. They soon married and began raising a family together.
He drove a Greyhound Bus for over thirty years, but the work he loved most was with horses. He and Lucia eventually bought a little farm on the outskirts of Salem where they kept a small stable, an orchard, and always beautiful flowers. Taking his grandchildren for a buggy ride was one of his greatest pleasures. He also loved listening to old-time country gospel music, writing stories and poems, and reading. Just about anything could tickle his funny bone, and his family always kept him amused with their stories and jokes.
Grandpa Jones was surrounded by family when he passed away January 24 after a short illness. He was ninety six. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lucia Jones, his brothers, Russell Jones of Prineville and Everett Jones of Tillamook, and his sister, Edythe Jones Gove of Netarts. Survivors include his sister, Clarice Bones of Tillamook, his three children, Lorraine Herr of Silverton, Nolan Jones of The Dalles, and Marilynn Carlisle of Salem, nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, January 28th in Faith Chapel at Willamette Lutheran Home. His nephew, Rev. Dennis Jones, will be presiding. Graveside will be for family members only, prior to the service. Memorials can be made to the Willamette Lutheran Home or the Salvation Army. Arrangements by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
