    A memorial Mass will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1997, in Ascension Catholic Church for John F. Couzens, who died Sept. 11 at age 69.
    Mr. Couzens was born Oct. 30, 1927, in Baker City. He graduated from Imbler High School. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He married Patricia A. O'Neil in 1950. He was a member of the church and a graduate of Linfield College; he also earned degrees at Eastern Oregon State College. He was principal of Fruitdale Union Elementary School in La Grande and assistant principal and teacher in Hines. He also served as principal and superintendent in Glendale and principal of Our Lady of Sorrows School in Portland.
    Surviving are his wife; daughters, Susan Defebaugh of Portland, Lynda Fine of Burns and Lisa Blackmun of Cornelius; and five grandchildren.
    Private interment will be in Willamette National Cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to St. Joseph Indian School, Chamberlain, S.D. 57326. Arrangements are by Lincoln Memorial Park Funeral Home.

    Mr. Woolley was born Aug. 27, 1914, in Drain. He graduated from Oregon State College. During World War II, he served in the Marine Corps in the Pacific. He moved to Portland in 1947. A forester, he was executive director of Pacific Logging Congress for 30 years. He was a Camp Fire Girls leader for eight years and was a member of the church. In 1943, he married Beverly L. Beier.
    Survivors include his wife; daughter, Sally; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
