  • Obituary*: An obituary appeared in the Dorothy Bates Tilgner passed away on December 18, 2013. Dorothy was born on March 8, 1926 in Nebraska, the twelfth of thirteen children. The family moved to Vale, Oregon and lived in the stone house for several years. Dorothy helped cook and clean for her large family, and was always known for her excellent cooking skills. Dorothy worked for many years at Becker's Market, which later became G&B Market. She enjoyed friendships with many co-workers during her years of employment. She enjoyed camping and fishing with her family. Following the death of her first husband, Mel Bates in 1972, Dorothy married Tharrell Tilgner in 1975 and eventually settled in Richland, Oregon where she lived for the past twenty five years. Dorothy and Tharrell enjoyed traveling to Quartzsite, Arizona each winter. Dorothy loved being an Arizona "snowbird" because it allowed her to escape the cold winters of Richland. Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband Mel Bates, her daughter Cindy Pennington, and her grandson Jason Keller. She is survived by her husband Tharrell Tilgner, her children Terry Kurata and Michael Bates, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Services will be held at a later date.

    Earl moved to Reno in 1960. He is survived by wife Ruth, his daughter Carol, son Jim and grandchildren and great grandchildren.
    He was the best husband and will be greatly missed. He is now resting in peace in Jesus Arms.

    Joanie Hines, age 66, passed from this life into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 12, 2014, after a tragic auto accident. Joanie was born on January 7, 1948 to Hazel and Earl Douglass in Phoenix, Arizona. She graduated from high school in Port Hueneme, California in 1965. After Joanie's marriage to Darrell Hines on March 24, 1967, they lived in San Diego, California for four years while Darrell served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. Upon his discharge in 1971, they moved back to Ventura, California. The first of two sons, Bryan, was born while still living in San Diego. The second son, Keith, was born in Oxnard, California. In 1977, her husband, Darrell, took a transfer to Redding, California, where they lived the good life on 5 acres just outside of Redding. For 27 years, Joanie and Darrell raised their two sons there, and saw both sons marry and bless them with grandchildren. After Darrell's retirement, both sons and their families, and Mom and Dad moved to the Boise area in 2004.
    Joanie had a servant's heart, and loved helping the elderly and working with children, especially those with special needs. She loved singing, and was a talented artist. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and best friends, making trips to Scotland, England, Hawaii, and numerous trips in the continental United States. She and Darrell served the Lord through the Mobile Missionary Assistance Program (MMAP) for seven years, traveling in their RV to many different areas. Joanie was a member of Central Valley Baptist Church, and willingly served wherever she was needed, bringing joy to everyone she met.
    Joanie will be remembered by her family and all who knew her as the beautiful lady, with the beautiful smile, and a big heart full of love and caring for others, and was always an encourager. Joanie is survived by her husband, both sons and daughters-in-law, eight grandchildren, and her brother.
    Her memorial service will be held at Central Valley Baptist Church, 600 N. Ten Mile Road, Meridian, Idaho, on Thursday, May 29, 2014, at 6:30 p.m. after 12 May 2014 Meridian, Ada County, Idaho.

Morton on Nov. 23, 1920, in Salem, where they lived until coming to McMinnville in 1940. She worked for the family business. Morton Star Cleaners, until 1948. For many years she was a seamstress, retiring in 1972. Mrs. Morton was a member and past president of Daughters of the Nile, Zenobia Club. Survivors include her husband, Clark Morton, McMinnville; sons, Robert E. Morton, Yamhill, and Clark C. Morton, Portland; a sister, Helen Lindu, Santa Cruz, Calif; three brothers, Don Matlock, Salinas, Calif., Ralph Matlock, North Bend, and Randolph Matlock, Eugene; nine grand-children; and three great grandchildren.
